What is a Certified Forensic Locksmith (CFL) and what do we do? We offer specialized expertise in an area related to the field of locksmithing. Just like doctors, we are specialist in our related disciplines to help attorneys, insurance companies, and business owners determine causation when an incident happens. We are not concerned with the "who" as we are with the "what."
For EC Lock Forensics Consulting we specialize in the following areas:
- Automatic Door Incidents - Our CFL is one of the few in the country that is AAADM certified. AAADM stands for American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers. Good knowledge and testing are required annually for certification in ANSI/BHMA A156.10-2017, ANSI/BHMA A156.19-2019, and ANSI/BHMA A156.38-2019 standards for automatic doors. Just because someone can repair and install automatic doors does not necessarily mean they are AAADM certified. The difference can be huge in determining liability when an incident happens.
- Fire Door Inspections - Our CFL is also a CFDAI's (Certified Fire Door and Assembly Inspectors). Our certification from DHI (Door Hardware Institute) includes NFPA 101 Life Safety Code certification as well as NFPA 80 Standards for Fire Doors. Consideration is also given for ICC A117.1-2009 Accessible requirements. We perform many state institutions and health care facility fire door inspections.
- Practicing Locksmith on Architectural Doors and Exit Hardware. Our CFL is a practicing locksmith that has owned his own company for almost 10 years. He is licensed in more than one state. Most of his locksmith work is in the commercial and automobile areas with some residential. Being a practicing locksmith keeps our CFL current with door and lock problems. Something as simple as a leaking closer is a huge liability. He knows a lot because he has seen a lot.
- Lock Bypass and Entry - Unauthorized entry can be a serious problem and liability. When it happens an expert is often needed to examine how it happened. A CFL will often be required to take the lock evidence and examine it for tool marks externally and internally microscopically .
Experience matters. Our CFL understands the consequences of legal liability. Having a JD (Juris Doctorate) in law helps him understand the legal consequences of liability as it relates to forensic investigation.
